On Thursday, 12 February 2026, the founding signatures for the establishment of North Aegean Olive Oil Agricultural Products Licensed Warehousing Inc. were officially signed during a ceremony hosted by the Ayvalık Chamber of Commerce. This landmark initiative, expected to open a new chapter for Türkiye’s olive oil sector, will formally become a legal entity upon approval by the Ministry of Trade, in accordance with the relevant legislation.
The licensed warehousing project, which has long been a priority for the region, will be developed on a 14,000-square-meter site allocated to the Ayvalık Chamber of Commerce in June 2025. Designed with a storage capacity of 6,000 tons, the facility will provide modern technical infrastructure and storage conditions that prioritize the quality, traceability, and safety of olive oil while meeting the production needs of the region.
Once operational, the facility will enable olive oil to be stored under internationally recognized technical and hygienic standards, allowing producers to market their products independently of seasonal price fluctuations. Through the Electronic Warehouse Receipt (ELÜS) system, olive oil trading will become more transparent, secure, and efficient. The project is expected to strengthen the competitive position of North Aegean olive oil in both domestic and international markets.
A Strong Regional Partnership
The signing ceremony brought together representatives of 16 Chambers of Commerce and Commodity Exchanges, including the Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Ayvalık, Balıkesir, Bandırma, Bergama, Burhaniye, Çanakkale, Edremit, Erdek, Karacabey, Menemen, and Susurluk. The event was also attended by Hasan Yaman, District Governor of Ayvalık; Havva Taylan, Acting Mayor of Ayvalık; Volkan Oral, District Director of Agriculture and Forestry; officials from the Ayvalık Trade Registry Office; and representatives of the South Marmara Development Agency (GMKA).
The partnership, established through the collaboration of sixteen regional chambers and commodity exchanges, represents a strong example of institutional cooperation and sectoral solidarity.
Supported by Regional Development
The project gained its technical foundation through a feasibility study supported by the South Marmara Development Agency (GMKA). Comprehensive field studies and stakeholder consultations confirmed the regional need for such an investment. Throughout the process, the active ownership of the participating chambers and commodity exchanges, combined with GMKA’s technical guidance and coordination, played a crucial role in bringing the project to this stage.
Included in the 2026 Local Development Initiative
The olive oil licensed warehousing investment has also been identified as one of the priority investment areas for Balıkesir Province under the 2026 Local Development Initiative Program, coordinated by the Ministry of Industry and Technology. This designation provides an important policy framework and creates new opportunities for financing, incentives, and implementation, supporting the realization of licensed warehousing investments throughout the region.
Following the completion of the company’s incorporation process with the approval of the Ministry of Trade, the project is expected to move into the implementation phase. The initiative is anticipated to establish a new institutional infrastructure for the olive oil trade in the North Aegean Region and become a benchmark model for the sector in the years to come.
"Stronger Together."
