BANDIRMA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE INITIATES AUDIT PROCESS FOR GEOGRAPHICALLY INDICATED PRODUCTS

The Bandırma Chamber of Commerce has started field studies for the audit and sustainability processes of 4 products for which it has obtained geographical indication registration belonging to the region. In this framework, it has initiated a comprehensive audit process to protect the geographically indicated products, which are the economic and cultural heritage of the region.

In the first stage of this process, which is carried out by taking support from the knowledge and experience of Huriye Özener, the founder of Özener Brand Patent and Consultancy firm specialized in the field, a meeting was held with the institutions taking part in the audit team of geographically indicated products.

At the meeting attended by Bandırma Chamber of Commerce Board Chairman Bahadır Çolak and Board Member Osman Lafçı, Çolak stated, "As the Chamber of Commerce, we have obtained the registration of 4 products belonging to our region and locality. In the next phase, by coming together with our producers in the audit process, we aim to protect our geographically indicated products, maintain their quality, and increase their economic value. These efforts of ours will continue."

Prior to the audit process, comprehensive field studies targeting producers in the region were conducted between August 5–7, 2026. Within the scope of these studies, it was aimed to make the production of geographically indicated products sustainable in accordance with registration conditions. During the visits, detailed information was provided to producers regarding the importance of the geographical indication system, the functioning of audit mechanisms, and correct usage.

Field activities were not limited to information alone; they were transformed into a platform where producers could make their voices heard. Operational problems encountered during the production process, as well as the opinions and suggestions of producers, were analyzed on-site and recorded. These studies, meticulously carried out by the Bandırma Chamber of Commerce, are of great importance in terms of carrying geographically indicated products safely into the future and equipping them with a stronger, auditable structure.

With this strategic move it has implemented, the Bandırma Chamber of Commerce aims to increase the production capacities and income levels of local producers. Thanks to the production of geographically indicated products in compliance with standards, it is aimed to create new commercial opportunities for chamber members in national and international markets and to pioneer regional development.
