In a seminar jointly organized by the Bandırma Chamber of Commerce and the Erdek Chamber of Commerce, participants discussed the new obligations businesses will face under the European Green Deal and the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).
Held on Monday, 27 April 2026, at the Training Hall of the Bandırma Chamber of Commerce, the seminar titled "Business Obligations During the Transition Period of the EU Green Deal and the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM)" attracted significant interest from industrialists, exporters, and representatives of the regional business community.
The program opened with a speech by Bahadır Çolak, Chairman of the Board of the Bandırma Chamber of Commerce, who emphasized the strategic importance of the European Green Deal and highlighted the necessity for businesses to adapt to the ongoing green transformation process.
The seminar was delivered by Prof. Dr. Gökhan Orhan, Head of the Department of Urbanization and Environmental Issues at Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University. His presentation provided a comprehensive overview of the European Union’s new trade regulations, covering topics such as the strategic framework of the Green Deal, key policy packages, regulatory instruments, and Türkiye’s position in the EU market.
Particular attention was given to the technical requirements that companies need to address during the transition period, including emissions calculation methodologies, the MRV (Monitoring, Reporting and Verification) system, carbon pricing, the Emissions Trading System (ETS), and the Omnibus decisions. Participants also had the opportunity to ask questions regarding the new obligations they may encounter in their export activities.
Recognizing the importance of sustainability and maintaining the competitiveness of the regional economy, the seminar concluded with a question-and-answer session. At the end of the program, Prof. Dr. Gökhan Orhan was presented with a commemorative gift in appreciation of his valuable contribution.
